2007 GENA lesson plan: Genetic Mutations and a Specific Look at the MSX1 Gene

Description

Genetic Mutations and a Specific Look at the MSX1 Gene Lesson is a great addition to any curriculum wanting to find a hands on way to teach about specific types of genetic mutations (i.e. nonsense, missense, silent and frame shift). After executing this lesson at the senior high level, it is actually most appropriate at the 9th-10th grade level. It provides a nice review of the concepts of transcription and translation and then using nucleotide manipulatives demonstrates different types of genetic mutations.
